Don Quixote
In association with Avis
15 Apr – 15 May 2027
Start your ballet year in sunny Spain with Don Quixote, ballet’s greatest ‘rom-com’, full of tutus, sparkles, love and laughter.
Gorgeous dancing combines with comic flair as feisty couple Kitri and Basilio navigate the twists and turns of their romance, helped – and hindered – by the blunders of the deluded Don Quixote, who stumbles into their story as he dreams of noble quests and knightly adventures.
With dashing matadors, flirtatious fan dances and thrilling pas de deux, Don Quixote is a joyful romp through some of ballet’s funniest, sunniest moments, an intoxicating feast for all the senses and a delight for audiences of all ages.
This gorgeous heritage production, created for West Australian Ballet in 2010 by Lucette Aldous AC, features sensational sets and costumes by Allan Lees OAM. The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and Auckland Philharmonia, conducted by Hamish McKeich, will perform Ludwig Minkus’s effervescent music.
